WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal prosecutors urged a judge on Tuesday to reject Hunter Biden’s efforts to dismiss the gun charges against him, revealing that investigators last year found cocaine residue on the pouch the president’s son used to hold his gun. “To be clear, investigators literally found drugs on the pouch where the defendant had kept his gun,” prosecutors said. Hunter Biden has since said that he’s stopped using drugs and has worked to turn his life around. Hunter Biden’s criminal proceedings are also happening in parallel to so far unsuccessful efforts by congressional Republicans to link his business dealings to his father. Republicans are pursuing an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, claiming he was engaged in an influence-peddling scheme with his son.

Former Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis said an advisor told her the president would not leave his post. AdvertisementAdvertisementA recent testimony from former Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis could prove fatal to Donald Trump's defense, a legal analyst told CNN . Per Ellis, during the December 19 Christmas party, she had told Scavino that their cause was "essentially over." And he said 'Well, the boss', meaning President Trump — and everyone understood 'the boss,' that's what we all called him — he said, 'The boss is not going to leave under any circumstances. At least eight Georgia Republican electors present that day have agreed to testify in exchange for immunity from state charges. The meeting was led by David Shafer, then chairman of the Georgia Republican Party. But halfway through the meeting, Shafer noted that Still’s name was printed as the secretary on documents. A Georgia Republican Party website raising money to defend electors calls them “patriots who served." Lawyers for the indicted electors argue it was up to Congress to determine which slates should be counted.

Rep. Steve Scalise, the GOP nominee to the next speaker of the House, has a rare blood cancer. "I guess it's the elephant in the room," said Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee, who supports Scalise's speakership bid. Scalise was diagnosed in August with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer that's treatable but not curable, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. "I will admit it's a concern," said Rep. Keith Self of Texas, who's among the Republicans who have yet to support Scalise. Burchett also suggested that Greene was getting more attention for her remark about Scalise's cancer because she's a woman.

Vivek Ramaswamy argued that Mike Pence missed a "historic opportunity" on January 6, 2021. Ramaswamy said on NBC's "Meet the Press," that Pence should have sought major election reforms. Welcome to Opinion’s commentary for the first Republican presidential primary candidate debate, held in Milwaukee on Wednesday night. Gail Collins: She seemed generally reasonable and wow, when the debate turned to education and she actually brought up reading. If there’s any life left in the old G.O.P., Haley gave it hope. Perhaps more important, in taking on the glib and callow Ramaswamy on Ukraine, she showed anger and dominance, essential qualities in a Republican debate. Any debate that doesn’t feature Chris Christie at the front of the highlight reel is a bad night for Christie.

The new indictment against Donald Trump refers to six unindicted co-conspirators. The last time a prosecutor tried flipping people close to Trump, it didn't go too well. According to the new federal indictment against him, brought by Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith, Trump had six criminal co-conspirators. Smith is also overseeing a separate prosecution against Trump and two alleged co-conspirators related to the ex-president's hoarding of government documents. The Manhattan district attorney's office charged Weisselberg and the Trump Organization with a litany of white collar crimes in 2021.

Ex-Rep. Charlie Dent on Saturday criticized Trump for dining with Nick Fuentes at Mar-a-Lago. "This is simply inexcusable that he would have dinner with this noted white nationalist," Dent said. "This is simply inexcusable that he would have dinner with this noted white nationalist, antisemite Nick Fuentes, and of course, Kanye West with all of his baggage. "It also speaks to a larger problem for former President Trump — that there apparently are no gatekeepers. "But finally, I guess I would say this further diminishes Donald Trump as a serious political figure.
